Archive Outlook E-Mail Without a .PST File

Microsoft Outlook has always archived your e-mail in a Personal Storage File (.PST). The .PST files stores Calendar items, e-mail, Journal entries, and Tasks on local Windows workstations. Users are responsible for proper archiving, such as ... specifying the archiving period, file locations, etc. The .PST files are notorious for corruption. There are many repair utilities that exist just for the purpose of repairing and recovering corrupted .PST files. There was another big drawback to the original .PST file: SIZE. Outlook 2002's .PST file was limited to 1.933 GB. Outlook 2003 increased the size ... (view more)

Just about everyone who surfs the Web has an email account any more. Most of the Internet Service Providers on the 'net have a set of mailboxes they provide their customers, but the software they provide for folk to get to their email account ... sometimes does not provide the tools needed to effectively use their email Inboxes. There are several "email Clients" available that we be presenting. Before we get to that, there is some information you need to know to be able to select the best fit for your use. The Google Hate Speech Incident

Is the FBI poking around your e-mail? Randall C. Ashby II used his Google Mail (Gmail) account to distribute hate speech -- and that was all the feds needed to investigate him. On May 22nd, 2006, Ashby signed up for Gmail and sent a threatening ... message to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Firewalls: Definition

A firewall is a barrier to keep destructive forces away from your computer. In fact, that's why it's called a firewall. Its job is similar to a physical firewall that keeps a fire from spreading from one area to the next. Firewalls use one or more ... of three methods to control traffic flowing in and out of the network: Packet filtering: Packets (small chunks of data) are analyzed against a set of filters. Packets that make it through the filters are sent to the requesting system and all others are discarded. Proxy service: Information from the Internet is retrieved through the firewall and then ... (view more)

Yahoo Attacked By Yamanner Worm

Yahoo Mail, the world's most popular e-mail service, was recently attacked by a software virus (worm) dubbed "Yamanner" or "JS.Yamanner." Major anti-virus companies Trend Micro and McAfee disagree with Symantec (Norton) about Yamanner's threat ... level. Trend Micro and McAfee have categorized the virus as a "low" threat, but Symantec (Norton) is calling it an "elevated threat." Most worms are activated only after an infected e-mail file attachment is downloaded. Not Yamanner. Merely opening the mail is enough to automatically unleash the virus onto your computer. That is likely the reason for ... (view more)

Handle E-mail Attachments With Care

In my last column I talked about one very important thing you can do to help secure your e-mail . Though it could affect the appearance of some messages, turning off HTML in your e-mail program can go a long way toward protecting your computer. ... Having said that, one of the most useful features of e-mail is the ability to send and receive attachments. An attachment is simply a file that is appended to the e-mail message itself. This can be a data file, like a word processing document or spreadsheet, or can even be a full-blown application such as a disk cleanup tool, an icon changer, etc. ... (view more)

ClipCache Plus Review

If you have an e-mail address, you probably also have at least one 'forwarding friend' to e-mail every joke, urban myth, and karma-building novelty message in circulation. If you don't have a forwarding friend, chances are, you are the forwarding ... friend. Don't get me wrong -- there's no shame in forwarding jokes, stories, and other bits of textual entertainment. There are, however, 3 Golden Email Etiquette Rules one must follow when forwarding messages, and they are: Remove all '>' or '|' tags before sending the message. They make jokes hard to read and they bloat the message size, making ... (view more)
