Microsoft, Google Execs Dominate Billionaires List
A recent Forbes report reveals just how much money can be made in the lucrative consumer technology business. Forbes' annual list of the world's wealthiest people is largely dominated by executives from the tech industry's biggest firms, including Microsoft and Google.
Sitting atop the world's richest people list is Mexican mobile mogul Carlos Slim Helu, who controls Latin American firm America Movil. Helu's net worth: an astounding $73 billion.
Gates, Ballmer, Allen in Top 60
Not far behind is Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, who is worth a reported $67 billion. A short jump down the list to number five is Oracle's Larry Ellison, whose net worth is estimated to be about $43 billion. (Source: techcrunch.com)
Current Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer is also a very wealthy man, with a net worth of $15.2 billion. That places him 51st overall, or two spots ahead of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, whose net worth is an estimated $15 billion.
Google Founders Worth Over $20B Each
Not to be outdone, Google co-founder and chief executive officer Larry Page is ranked 20th with a net worth of $23 billion. Fellow Google co-founder Sergey Brin follows shortly behind at rank 21; Brin is worth just a shade under $23 billion.
Poor Eric Schmidt, Google's executive chairman, placed much further down the list. Ranked 138th, he's only worth about $8.2 billion.
If you're wondering where the recently-deceased Steve Jobs placed on the list, his widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, ranks 98th with a net worth of just under $11 billion.
At age 28, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest person on Forbes' billionaires list. His net worth is $13.3 billion, down from $17.5 billion last year. Still, that's good enough to rank Zuckerberg 66th overall.
Other noteworthy names on Forbes' list: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (rank 19, $25.2 billion) and Dell founder Michael Dell (rank 49, $15.3 billion). (Source: wired.com)
