Wireless HDTV Becomes a Reality with New Monster Cable Kit
There seems to be a never-ending cycle in consumer electronics: a new company comes along and introduces the next breakthrough in tech-based innovations, consumers buy into the product in droves, the novelty of the product wanes, the company re-packages the product in wireless form, the novelty of the product wanes, a new company comes along and introduces the next breakthrough in tech-based innovations...
Meet the latest product to get re-packaged in wireless form: High-Definition TV.
The move towards wireless "Hi-Def" is not a simple transition. Many companies have made several unsuccessful attempts in the past at maintaining a steady flow of wireless data over very high speeds.
Monster Cable Products, a company synonymous with expensive video and audio cables, is convinced that they have the ability to overcome these same obstacles and finally offer a product that will ensure wireless HDTV soon becomes a household feature.
Monster recently unveiled a kit containing two boxes: a receiver that plugs into the back of a standard high-definition television and a transmitter that connects to a DVD player or other components of a home entertainment system. (Source: usatoday.com)
The transmitter can send HD video signals wirelessly up to 30 feet to the receiver, using ultra-wideband technology. Ultra-wideband technology is a radio-based technology that can be used at very low energy levels for short-range, high-bandwidth communications through a large portion of the radio spectrum.
The boxes are even able to connect via a coaxial cable to reach each other in different rooms, up to 330 feet away! (Source: ibtimes.com)
The advancements made by Monster are not to be confused with WirelessHD, a consortium of powerful corporations that includes Sony Corp., Toshiba Corp. and Intel Corp. WirelessHD promotes a different wireless technology with transfer speeds that surpass even those of ultra-wideband.
The Monster HD kit is expected to be released in October with a suggested retail price of $299.95 USD.
