Streamline Worksheet Formatting in MS Excel 2007
Formatting worksheet content has been problematic in the past because compared to MS Word or even PowerPoint, Excel was pretty rigid in this area. However, if you use the new formatting capabilities in Excel, there will be no more problems!
Your workbook is comprised of sheets, that are comprised of rows and columns, that are comprised of cells.
Start by formatting the most of your workbook that you can in one fell swoop, such as applying a theme and setting workbook defaults. One of the easiest and most time-saving things you can do when formatting workbooks is to set your formatting defaults. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Click the Microsoft Office Button.
- Click on Excel Options.
- On the Popular tab, you will see the options for use when creating new workbooks. Set the formatting that applies to one or more sheets at a time (such as setting row height or applying headers and footers).
- Format specific ranges or tables.
Format individual cells that require formatting that's unique from the applicable range or table.
Formatting applied to individual cells takes priority over the formatting or ranges, tables or worksheets, just like character formatting takes precedence over paragraph formatting in Word.
When you copy or move cells, rows or columns, the formatting travels along by default. Use Paste options to get the results you want and avoid having to fix unwanted formatting.
You can save time and energy by using keyboard shortcuts, such as ALT + Enter to wrap text to a new line within the same cell.
