Agent Ransack Review
Have you ever lost track of a file on your PC?
I got sick of using Windows Search (and waiting forever for it to find anything) and started looking for an alternative.
Unfortunately, most of the Search programs I came across either didn't do what I wanted them to, or had a lot of overhead. For example: overhead can result as some search tools index your entire hard drive (similar to a file system table). Among other reasons, indexing is performed so that searching is limited to 1 huge database file (rather than scouring through the entire hard drive, bouncing from file to file, as is the case with Windows Search).
Thankfully, I my quest ended when I came across a wonderful search utility called Agent Ransack. I've been using it for a long time and it really puts Windows default search to shame. Ransack is *much* faster and can do so much more, yet it doesn't do things I don't want it to.
It's perfect ;-)
Give Agent Ransack a try once and you'll find yourself wondering why Microsoft couldn't even come close to it's speed and features!
Quote from the authors:
" Agent Ransack is a free tool for finding files and information on your hard drive fast and efficiently. When searching the contents of files Agent Ransack displays the text found so you can quickly browse the results without having to separately open each file! Agent Ransack provides compelling advantages over similar search tools: Regular expressions that allow complex rule based searches; immediate contents results view; and various wizards to walk the user through the searching process.
