Where is the rest of the newsletter?, Part 2

It's been nearly one week since I last sent out the newsletter. Apparently I didn't make myself clear when I said that the web site reconstruction effort wasn't yet completed and that it was going to take some time, because a handful of folks ... emailed me over the weekend threatening to unsubscribe from the newsletter if I didn't hurry up and put things back in order. Talk about taking things for granted! I would agree with these sentiments if (and only if) I had a team of developers working around the clock and I paid them the going rate of $65.00 an hour to get the project completed ... but ... (view more)

Where is the rest of the newsletter?

Infopackets Reader Konrad L. write s: " Dear Dennis, I'm writing you today because I am questioning the change of some content of your newsletter. Don't get me wrong -- the effort you have put into inter-linking the articles is very welcome. ... However, now all that seems to remain is just your educational articles. I.E.: where is the 'On This Day in History' section? What about the freeware picks from Shell Extension City? Change is good. But if some things ain't broken, why fix 'em? " My response: Konrad isn't the first person to ask me the question, so I'd imagine there's probably a ... (view more)

Indeed the instructions you provided for removing ... Spyware are generic enough to apply to just about any Spyware application (toolbar or otherwise). I wanted to drop a line to tell you that I have been fighting Spyware for well over a year and recently opened up my own web site, as well as a forum section. The results are in: which Disk Imaging Backup software is best?

Recall -- Following with our recent theme on " backup software ", I announced last week that I be compiling an in-depth review on a disk imaging software. In a subsequent newsletter, I asked Infopackets Readers to send me their opinions (good or ... bad) on their favorite imaging program. Responses have been strong, with about 60 opinions to date. Based on those opinions, the consensus is that Acronis True Image is ranked as the favorite recommendation, providing best overall feature set and the least amount of bugs and incompatibilities. One other strong point brought to my attention ... (view more)

Spyware won't remove and keeps coming back!

Infopackets Reader Jim L. writes: " Dear Dennis, Please Help! I have apparently acquired some kind of virus (or Spyware) on my computer. I scanned my computer using AdAware and Spy Sweeper in hopes of resolving the issue; AdAware (downloaded the ... latest 'free' version) refuses to delete or quarantine any of the detected programs, and eventually locks up -- preventing me from even closing it down. Spy Sweeper continuously pops up a window telling me if I want to remove the detected Spyware, even after I click on 'remove'. One of the filenames is iekw32.exe, and another one was ipna.exe. It ... (view more)

System Restore and similar Registry Reverting utilities -- pointless?

Infopackets Reader Helen H. writes: " Dear Dennis, I recently installed Norton System Works 2005, and now my computer is reporting that System Restore for Windows XP will not complete the restore process. It says, 'System Restore Incomplete.' Can ... you tell me if the Norton antivirus is interfering with the restore program? If so what to I need to do to correct the problem?
